Thanks for the info and attached driver files. I have leopard (10.5) and it installed and works great for my LaserJet 1600.

Just got this working on OS Lion after many hours of tearing my hair out. Thanks a million to all those who posted here. 2bits per plane is essential for HP 1600 color laserjet (if you want color). Also rather than trying to set defaults in CUPS. When you go to print click on the “layout” drop down menu and select “printer features” and just set it to print in color rather than monochrome.

Thanks a million! You saved me! I’ve installed everything and it works like a charm on Leopard. I didn’t need step 5 and 6 though; I could change the color settings locally.
